We are always eager to see what Maker Team member Cat of @yukikofibercreations will make with our Corrriedale Roving. Cat loves working with fibers (as evidenced by her business name) and she is showing you how easily they can be transformed into something, shall we say whimsical? We shall! Follow along with her tutorial for a whimsical roving Christmas wreath!
I am back with another easy DIY for Christmas. And make it PINK! Using a selection of pastel roving and a few fun felt additions, you can make this gorgeous fiber wreath. It is also super light and easy to store. Let’s get started!
Skill Level: Beginner
Time: 2 1/2 hours
Directions:
1. Tie ribbon to top of embroidery hoop for hanging.
2. Pull pieces of Orchid and White roving that are 1/2" wide and 7 - 9" long. Make a pile with varying lengths in this range. Don’t worry if you don’t make enough - you can always make more!
3. Use Frixion pen to draw 30 leaves about 1 1/2" long on back of Silver metallic felt. Cut out. Draw 10 leaves on White felt about the same size and cut out. Leaves do not need to be exact. Use heat (iron or hair dryer) to erase pen marks.
4. Hot glue leaves to felt balls (seven total) to create berry clusters. Glue two to three White leaves to bottoms of three felt balls. Glue two to three Silver leaves to remaining four felt balls.
5. Pull a 3/4 x 36" piece of Sage roving. Smooth the length of roving and tie into a bow. Leave ends alone as they will be adjusted when bow is glued to wreath.
6. Arrange roving pieces starting from the top. Take a piece and make a loop. Place on top of hoop, loop facing in (A). Push ends under hoop and through loop (B). Pull ends away from hoop (C). Gently smooth and comb roving out with your fingertips.
Continue to add roving, alternating sides and colors as you move along hoop. Or add double colors to make a fun pattern! Alternate roving lengths for a consistent look.
7. When hoop is filled, hang to inspect balance of roving. Smooth and adjust as necessary. Sections can by shortened by gently pulling roving at ends.
8. Lay wreath flat. Arrange berry clusters around hoop and hot glue in place.
9. Glue roving bow to bottom center of wreath. Shorten bow ends, if needed, by gently pulling from ends. Smooth and fluff wreath.
Hang up your roving wreath for a whimsical Pink Christmas!
