Assorted Felt (Colors used in examples linked below)
Die Cut Machine
Frixion Pen - optional

Directions:

MINT SNOWFLAKE

Supplies:
Felt in Agave, Cerise, Conifer, Tellina, Butterscotch and Cherry Red
DMC floss in 351, 605, 906, 3706 and 3852

1. Use Snowflake Ornament die and a cutting machine to cut the following from felt:

Stitchable Base - Cut 2 from Agave
Stitchable Flower - Cut 1 from Cerise
Large Circle - Cut 1 from Conifer
Small Flower (8 petals) - Cut 1 from Tellina
Flower Center - Cut 1 from Butterscotch
Small Heart - Cut 3 from Cherry Red

2. Center Stitchable Flower on Stitchable Base. Be sure to line up the holes on flower and base. Use three strands of DMC 906 and a running stitch to secure Stitchable Flower.

All stitching will use three strands of embroidery floss unless otherwise noted.

3. Center Large Circle on Stitchable Flower. With DMC 3706, stitch 12 straight stitches from edge of Large Circle toward center. To help with spacing, line up six of the stitches with holes in Stitchable Flower and then center remaining six between.

4. Stack Small Flower and Flower Center. Stitch in center of Large Circle with a running stitch and DMC 3852.

5. Place Small Heart on one arm of Stitchable Base, just outside of Stitchable Flower. Use DMC 351 to place two lazy daisy stitches inside of Small Heart.

6. Use DMC 3852 to add three evenly spaced French knots (wrapped once) on Stitchable Base between end of arm and Small Heart.

7. Repeat steps 5-6 on two more arms of Stitchable Snowflake, leaving blank arm between each.

8. In blank arms, add backstitches down the center with DMC 605. Use same floss to add two lazy daisy stitches on either side of backstitching and one at the end. You may find it useful to draw guidelines with a Frixion pen prior to stitching. Markings can be removed later with a hair dryer or iron.

Repeat in remaining blank arms. The embellished snowflake should look like this:

9. Place two Stitchable Bases (embellished side facing out) together. Stitch together using DMC 3706. To hide the beginning knot, start under the edge of the Stitchable Flower on front and then come up through a hole in the top layer.

Whip stitch around perimeter.

10. If you are adding a string for hanging the ornament, hold it in place and stitch through it while whip stitching perimeter.

11. Prior to stitching ornament closed, stuff using Polyfil or felt scraps. Continue stitching closed.

12. To finish stitching, enter the final hole on back side and come back up a few stitches down to knot thread. Tuck the knotted end back into ornament.

NOTE: Although there are slight variations, the following snowflakes are constructed in the same manner as the first. Follow Steps 2-12 above using felt and floss specific to each version. Use cutting list and photos to note changes.
