Dream Whale Pattern  (click to download)
Crochet Thread, 1.5 mm
Iron
Sewing Machine
Black Fabric Paint

Directions:

1. Download and print Dream Whale Pattern above. Cut out all pattern pieces and trace onto corresponding felt using Frixion tracing pen. Cut out felt pieces. Use heat (iron) to remove markings.

2. Cut an 9 x 9” square out of Linen felt. Unscrew wooden hoop and place felt square between the two wooden circles and screw tightly. Make sure felt is tight in the hoop to ensure it will not slip. You can use any solid color that contrasts with the whale and balloons.

3. Position whale at bottom of the hoop. Secure with pins. Remove felt from hoop and, using a sewing machine and coordinating thread, sew whale onto background. Use needle to tuck top threads through to the back.

Alternatively, secure the whale by hand with a running stitch.

4. Tie a crochet thread to half of the balloons. Arrange balloons above the whale, as if they are lifting it into the air. Glue balloons and crown to background felt.

5. Use a garner needle to tuck crochet thread below whale belly. Knot and trim thread on back side of the hoop.

6. Trim excess felt on back, cutting as close to embroidery hoop as possible. Using the hoop back as a template, trace onto felt with Frixion pen. Cut out and remove pen marks with iron.

7. Apply glue around outside edge of hoop back and felt circle. Place felt circle over hoop back. Press in place.

8. Paint whale’s eye and let dry.

Alternatively, use thread to sew a french knot for the eye.

Your embroidery hoop is ready! Wouldn't this be a stunning baby shower gift? You can change the felt selection to match any decor. We're betting you will find the colors you need in our extensive felt collection. You're whale-come!
