Garden Party Tarts Pattern (click to download)
Cardstock
Freezer Paper - optional
Directions:
1. Trace the pattern onto felt and cut out. Freezer paper is especially helpful with cutting out the smaller pieces.
2. Starting with the tart filling, with one strand of coordinating DMC floss, stitch a running stitch around the circumference of the circle. Finish by stitching over the first stitch, then pull thread to gather the felt.
3. Insert a bit of stuffing into the filling, then take the paper circle and place it on top of the stuffing. Pull the thread as taut as possible and, while holding in place, tie off the thread.
4. Take the two crust circles and place them together. Using one strand of coordinating floss, make a running stitch around circumference of the circle. The stitch should be around 3/8” long. Finish by stitching, then pull the thread to gather the felt. While gathering, place the other paper circle on the bottom of the crust to create the round bottom shape. Hold the filling around the top of the crust to measure how wide you need the crust opening. Once you determine the correct size, pinch to hold in place while tying off the thread.
5. To assemble the tart, start by placing a bit of stuffing into the crust. Place the filling on top. To hold in place, slip a couple pins through the sides. Once you have the filling in place, use a ladder stitch between the inner crust and filling to attach the two. Tie off the thread in between the crust and filling, hiding it as best as possible.
6. Now for the toppings! To make the icing dollops, take a strand of coordinating DMC floss and thread through each tip of the icing, pulling tight to gather them together. Holding in place, slip the thread to the bottom and tie it off.
7. For the flowers, using a strand of floss, stitch on desired beads.
8. Finally, with coordinating thread to the tart filling color, use a few stitches as needed to attach each icing dollop and flower.
Your tarts are finished and sure to be the star of any garden party!
Play around with different colors and sizes for the toppings. You can also stitch on beads. Be creative and have fun!
