We're bringing some cozy to your holiday crafting with our new Mini Mittens die! These mittens make adorable ornaments, gift tags or garland. Cutting the tiny pieces is a breeze with the deep etch die - the hardest part will be deciding on which colors to use! We've created these mini mittens using our Snowbound felt medley palette and coordinating wool thread to jumpstart your inspiration. Now if I can just find my knitting needles...
Skill Level: Beginner
Time: 30 minutes
Additional Supplies:
Die Cut Machine
Tweezers - optional
Needle Threader - optional
Directions:
1. Separate Mini Mittens die into individual parts. The Diamonds, Circles and Ridges will stay connected and cut as a group.
2. Select your felt color combinations and cut elements. Each ornament requires two Mittens, two Cuffs, two sets of Ridges and desired decorative elements.
3. Glue six Ridges to one Cuff. Begin a small distance from each end and space evenly. It may be helpful to use tweezers when attaching some of the smaller elements. Repeat for remaining Cuff. Set Cuffs aside to dry.
4. Glue (or stitch) decorative elements to front of one Mitten. If you're feeling fancy, add sequins and beads to your ornament!
5. Once embellishments are dry, whip stitch front and back Mittens together. Begin with the knot on the inside left corner. If you want to place items inside the finished ornament, tuck thread ends into the seams to prevent bulkiness.
6. Whip stitch around perimeter, leaving top open. At the final corner, knot thread and tuck end inside seam. Thread tail will be covered by Cuff.
7. Glue Cuffs to front and back of ornament. Cuffs should be flush with top of Mitten and extend slightly past each side.
8. Whip stitch sides of each Cuff together. Position stitching along edges (before the first Ridge) and do not pass needle through Mitten. Pull Cuff edges closed gently but firmly. Tuck beginning and ending thread tails as before to minimize bulkiness.
9. To add a loop for hanging, cut a 12" length of wool thread. Pass needle through the outside edge seam (close to the top) toward the interior. Pass needle back through to the outside, leaving a loop inside. Tie a knot on the outside to keep loop in place. Add poms to each end of thread and cut at desired lengths.
If you are not adding poms, attach thread in the opposite direction, to have loop on outside of ornament and the knot inside.
Your mitten ornament is complete! What will you hide inside?
