Directions:

PINK FLOWER

Supplies:
Felt in BegoniaCherry Red, Garnet, Ecru, Tellina and Butterscotch
DMC floss in 760, 817, 954, 3706, 3852 and 3865

1. Use Flower Ornament die and a cutting machine to cut the following from felt:

Stitchable Base - Cut 2 from Begonia
Large Circle - Cut 1 from Garnet
Small Circle - Cut 1 from Ecru
Small Flower - Cut 1 from Tellina
Large Heart - Cut 3 from Cherry Red
Small Heart - Cut 3 from Ecru and 3 from Tellina
Flower Center - Cut 1 from Butterscotch

2. Use three strands of DMC 3865 to stitch Large Circle to center of Stitchable Base. Use straight stitches that extend from outer edge of circle inward (enough that ends will be covered by Small Circle.)

All stitching will use three strands of embroidery floss unless otherwise noted.

3. Stitch Small Circle to center of Large Circle with DMC 817 and a running stitch.

4. Attach Small Flower to center of Small Circle using DMC 3706. Stitch straight stitches from intersection of petals toward center of flower.

5. Use a French knot (wrapped once) to add Flower Center to center of Small Flower.

6. Stack a Large and Small (Tellina) Heart. Position in center of one petal with point of heart closest to Large Circle. Secure with DMC 3706 and two lazy daisy stitches. Repeat with remaining Cherry Red and Tellina hearts in alternating petals.

7. Use DMC 817 to add two French knots between top of stacked hearts and end of petal. Wrap bottom knot twice and top knot once. Repeat above remaining stacked hearts.

8. At the top of a blank petal, stitch Small (Ecru) Heart with DMC 760 and two lazy daisy stitches.

9. Use DMC 954 and back stitches to make a stem between bottom of Small Heart and Large Circle. Add leaves with long lazy daisy stitches. You may find it useful to draw guidelines with a Frixion pen prior to stitching. Markings can be removed later with a hair dryer or iron.

10. Repeat Steps 8 and 9 for remaining empty petals. The embellished flower should look like this:

11. Place two Stitchable Bases (embellished side facing out) together. Stitch together using DMC 3865. To hide the beginning knot, start under the edge of the stacked hearts on front and then come up through a hole in the top layer.

Whip stitch around perimeter.

12. If you are adding a string for hanging the ornament, hold it in place and stitch through it while whip stitching perimeter.

13. Prior to stitching ornament closed, stuff using Polyfil or felt scraps. Continue stitching closed.

14. To finish stitching, enter the final hole on back side and come back up a few stitches down to knot thread. Tuck the knotted end back into ornament.
